Defines "Roommate Jargon"

Host / Landlord :
How does Home-Mate define a
Host or Landlord? A person who has a living space already established. This might be a house, apartment, condo, flat, townhouse, etc. They have an extra bedroom(s), and they want a person(s) to move in. The Host receives Guest referrals from Home-Mate.

Guest / Tenant:
A person who is looking for a place to live but is not ready to purchase a living space and does not want to move alone into a costly single bedroom apartment is a
Guest or a Tenant. They can save money on rent, utilities, furniture, and deposit, if they move with a Host. A Guest can often go month to month without a lease. A Guest in this situation could leave whenever they want as long as they give a minimum of one month's notice. Most Guests prefer to move in with a Host who has an established living space because there is less legwork and it can be more convenient.

Starting a Place:
A Tenant may want to be matched up with another Tenant to "start" a place. This can be good if a Tenant has a lot of furniture, has an empty two bedroom place in mind, or if he or she prefers to get their name on a lease for credit reasons. Plus, starting a place is popular for people who want a roommate situation that is completely fresh and totally 50-50. Tenants may receive Landlord referrals (and if desired, other Tenant referrals) from Home-Mate Specialists.

Referrals (Leads, Prospects, Candidates):
When a client gets a Referral (via fax, telephone, or post), they are given specific details (such as: occupation, age, hobbies, schedule, educational status, amenities, etc.) in addition to the name and phone numbers. This will make their decision easier. If more information is needed, a Home-Mate representative will be glad to elaborate on a particular lead. Referrals are given out on an unlimited basis for the term of your agreement.
